The Mail on Sunday published a great photo this week of a young Kate Middleton celebrating with classmates back in 2001 at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
The rare candid snap shows a smiling Kate wearing face paint and pigtails as she participates in a foam fight with fellow students to mark the end of their fresher week and the beginning of their first term at university. Reporter Jody Harrison explains that Prince William did not participate in the event, called “Raisin Monday.”
British Royal Wedding quotes the newspaper: “In her early student days, Royal protocol would have been the last thing on Kate’s mind – but just weeks after this picture was taken she met Prince William and her carefree life would change for ever.”
Royal protocol aside, the good-natured sense of fun displayed in this photo will certainly serve Kate well should she join the royal fold in the future.
