Frigid temperatures in the UK apparently haven’t deterred Prince William and Kate Middleton from taking their usual New Year’s holiday at Balmoral in Scotland. The Sun reports that the couple arrived at Birkhall, Prince Charles’s home on the royal estate, on New Year’s Day.
Prince Charles is also apparently enjoying the freezing temperatures at Birkhall as well, though Camilla has stayed back in England to be with her daughter Laura, who gave birth to twin boys Gus and Louis on December 30.
William and Kate were spotted at Heathrow last year on their return from their Scottish holiday. An unnamed source tells The Sun, “They loved the peace and quiet there last year and decided there was nowhere they’d rather be together. Any days they spend with each other are incredibly precious because of William’s busy career schedule, so they want to make sure that when he has time off, it is quality time.”
The couple surely has some sentimental ties to Scotland as well — they first met and began dating while studying at the University of St Andrews.

Prince Harry made three when he accompanied Prince William and Kate Middleton to the London premiere of the new Sherlock Holmes film on Monday evening.
Royal watchers were all a-twitter — literally! — with a rare sighting of Prince William and his girlfriend, Kate Middleton, out and about in London this weekend, likely celebrating William’s recent success on crucial exams in his quest to become a search-and-rescue pilot.
Kate Middleton made an appearance in London on Thursday, attending the premiere of Tenacity on the Tasman at The Odeon in Leicester Square. The film is a documentary about Olly Hicks’s attempt to row solo around the world. Olly is a friend of Prince William, and his rowing sojourn was sponsored by Sir Richard Branson, whose daughter, Holly Branson, is also a friend of Kate and William.
