Happy 28th Birthday, Kate!

Richard Palmer of the Daily Express writes this weekend that Kate is spending part of her birthday weekend with Prince William at Sandringham.  He suggests that she may be having tea with The Queen on her big day.

Palmer explains, “The couple, who have been dating on and off for seven years, are due to spend part of the weekend at the Royal Family’s Norfolk estate amid mounting speculation that they will soon announce their engagement.”

Last year, Prince William’s car was pictured outside of Kate’s parents’ Berkshire home on her birthday, suggesting that Kate had enjoyed a quiet birthday celebration at home with her family and her beau.  This year it sounds as if at least part of the day may be spent with William’s family as well.

Kate has been photographed at Sandringham before, notably last December out shooting with William and Prince Harry on the grounds of the estate.  Such photographs have not been released this year — probably because of The Queen’s crack-down on paparazzi lenses on the family’s private property.

Hope the birthday weekend is great!

Frigid temperatures in the UK apparently haven’t deterred Prince William and Kate Middleton from taking their usual New Year’s holiday at Balmoral in Scotland.  The Sun reports that the couple arrived at Birkhall, Prince Charles’s home on the royal estate, on New Year’s Day.

Prince Charles is also apparently enjoying the freezing temperatures at Birkhall as well, though Camilla has stayed back in England to be with her daughter Laura, who gave birth to twin boys Gus and Louis on December 30.

William and Kate were spotted at Heathrow last year on their return from their Scottish holiday.  An unnamed source tells The Sun, “They loved the peace and quiet there last year and decided there was nowhere they’d rather be together.  Any days they spend with each other are incredibly precious because of William’s busy career schedule, so they want to make sure that when he has time off, it is quality time.”

The couple surely has some sentimental ties to Scotland as well — they first met and began dating while studying at the University of St Andrews.

Prince William may have been hob-knobbing with his royal family on the Sandringham estate on Christmas Day, but girlfriend Kate Middleton was enjoying time on another royal property with her own family.

Kate was photographed on Christmas Day playing tennis with her sister, Pippa, and her brother, James, on the grounds of Restormel Manor, one of the homes on the Duchy of Cornwall estate.  She wore a gray cable-knit sweater and black track pants for the outdoor game.  Kate, a keen fan who is often photographed at Wimbledon, played tennis when she was a student at Marlborough College.

The manor home as well as the cottages on the property can be rented by members of the public.  However, Kate surely had an in when making reservations.  The Duchy of Cornwall estates are owned by the Duke of Cornwall — who just happens to be Prince Charles, father of her boyfriend, Prince William.  The Duchy’s annual income provides the funds that support Charles and his family.

Prince Harry made three when he accompanied Prince William and Kate Middleton to the London premiere of the new Sherlock Holmes film on Monday evening.

Even though they were invited to the event in London’s Leicester Square, the three reportedly eschewed the red carpet to avoid stealing the spotlight from the stars of the film, including Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams.  Rebecca English of the Mail Online notes, “The trio were invited to the premiere of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes film but, according to Clarence House, didn’t want to turn the opening night into a royal circus when it was an occasion for the actors.”

Harry and William have been making the most of their time before the upcoming Christmas holidays.  This week, the pair attended The Sun’s “Millies” Awards, which honor the achievements of military servicemen, as well as the annual pre-Christmas family luncheon thrown by The Queen and Prince Philip.  William also helped to celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of his favorite charities, Centrepoint.
